IB - International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is one of the most rigorous and globally respected high school curricula, offered in over 5,600 schools across 159 countries and recognized by virtually every major university in the world. The program requires students to study six subjects across sciences, humanities, and languages while completing an extended essay, a Theory of Knowledge course, and community service hours — a combination specifically designed to develop critical thinking, research ability, and intellectual independence. Universities such as Harvard, Oxford, MIT, Stanford, and Cambridge actively seek IB Diploma holders because the program's depth and breadth closely mirror the demands of university-level academics, and strong IB predicted grades can be decisive in competitive admissions. The IB curriculum is demanding, and many students find they need targeted support in subjects like Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — particularly at Higher Level, where the content goes significantly beyond what most national curricula cover. Our IB tutors are experienced with the specific assessment formats that make the IB unique, including Internal Assessments, the Mathematical Exploration, the Economics commentary portfolio, and the extended essay, and they know how to help students earn the marks that examiners are looking for. Beyond individual subject help, your academic coach coordinates your entire tutoring schedule and tracks your progress across all six subjects so that no class falls behind while you focus on another. If you are also preparing for standardized tests like the SAT or ACT alongside the IB, your coach ensures that test prep and IB coursework reinforce each other rather than competing for your time. Visit our IB programme page to see the full list of 35 subjects we tutor and learn more about how our tutors approach each one.

AP - Advanced Placement Exams

The Advanced Placement (AP) program, administered by the College Board, offers high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses and demonstrate their academic abilities through standardized exams held every May, with scores that can earn university credit and advanced standing at thousands of institutions worldwide. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, and scores of 4 or 5 signal to admissions officers that a student can handle the rigor of university coursework — a typical admitted student at Harvard, Stanford, or Princeton presents multiple AP scores of 5 across a range of subjects. With 38 subjects available spanning mathematics, sciences, social sciences, languages, and the arts, AP provides remarkable flexibility for students to build an academic profile that reflects their strengths and interests while challenging themselves beyond the standard high school curriculum. Our AP tutors provide focused preparation in high-demand subjects such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Calculus AB and BC, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and English Literature, helping students master both the subject content and the specific exam formats — from multiple-choice strategies to free-response essay techniques. Students who are not enrolled in a school that offers AP courses can still register for and sit the exams independently, and our tutors can guide self-study students through the entire syllabus from scratch. Your academic coach helps you decide which AP courses to take each year and how to balance your AP workload with standardized test preparation and extracurricular commitments, ensuring that your course selection aligns with the expectations of your target universities. Strong AP scores, combined with a well-planned college application strategy, give students a significant competitive advantage in the admissions process. Visit our AP programme page to see all 38 subjects we tutor and learn how our approach is tailored to each exam.

A-Level - Advanced Level

The A-Level (Advanced Level) is a two-year qualification developed by Cambridge Assessment International Education, part of the University of Cambridge, and is the gold standard entry qualification for universities across the United Kingdom and increasingly recognized by elite institutions worldwide. Students typically study three or four subjects in considerable depth over two years, developing the advanced analytical reasoning, essay-writing precision, and independent thinking skills that universities expect from their incoming students. A-Level results are the primary basis for university offers in the UK through the UCAS system, and top universities in the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, and Singapore also accept A-Level qualifications as direct entry credentials. The exam format is heavily essay-based and rewards students who can construct well-reasoned arguments under timed conditions, which is why tutoring focused on exam technique — not just content knowledge — makes a meaningful difference in final grades. Our A-Level tutors specialize in high-demand subjects including Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English Literature, and they work with students on past paper practice, mark scheme analysis, and the structured essay techniques that Cambridge examiners reward. Choosing the right combination of A-Level subjects is critical because many university courses have specific subject requirements, and your academic coach advises on subject selection based on your university goals while coordinating with your overseas education consultant to ensure your choices align with the admission requirements of your target institutions. Whether you are aiming for Oxford, Imperial College London, or an Ivy League school in the United States, strong A-Level grades combined with a coherent application strategy are essential to a competitive candidacy. Visit our A-Level programme page to browse all 44 subjects we offer tutoring in and learn how we approach each one.

AS-Level - Advanced Subsidiary Level

The Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-Level) is a one-year qualification offered by Cambridge Assessment International Education that represents the first half of the full A-Level qualification, and it can be taken either as a standalone credential or as a stepping stone toward the complete two-year A-Level. AS-Level is particularly valuable for students who want to study a broader range of subjects — often four or five — in their first year before narrowing their focus to three subjects for the full A-Level, allowing them to demonstrate intellectual breadth to university admissions committees without overcommitting early. Many universities in the United Kingdom accept AS-Level results as part of their conditional offers through UCAS, and institutions in Canada, Australia, and Europe also recognize them as supplementary qualifications that strengthen an application. The AS-Level exams cover the first year of A-Level content and use the same rigorous Cambridge examination format, so the study habits and exam technique students build during AS-Level transfer directly into stronger A-Level performance the following year. Our AS-Level tutors cover high-demand subjects including Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, and English Literature, with particular focus on helping students master the essay-based and problem-solving exam formats that Cambridge uses. Getting strong AS-Level grades is strategically important because they contribute to predicted grades that universities see when evaluating applications, and your academic coach ensures your AS-Level subjects are chosen to keep the right doors open for your university and career goals. If you are also preparing for standardized tests or working on your university applications alongside your AS-Levels, your coach coordinates everything into one coherent schedule. Visit our AS-Level programme page to explore all 51 subjects we tutor and see how our approach can help you build a strong foundation for A-Level success.

IGCSE - International General Certificate of Secondary Education

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is one of the world's most widely taken qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, administered by Cambridge Assessment International Education and offered across thousands of schools in over 140 countries. The IGCSE serves as the essential academic foundation for students in grades 9 and 10 who plan to continue with A-Level, AS-Level, or IB Diploma studies, and strong IGCSE results set the trajectory for the rest of a student's academic career. With over 70 subjects available — from core disciplines like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Economics to languages, arts, and vocational courses — students have extraordinary breadth of choice, and the program's rigorous external examinations ensure that qualifications earned are respected by schools and universities globally. Because IGCSE is an exam-based qualification, students can register for individual exams independently without being enrolled in a school that offers the curriculum, giving families the flexibility to prepare through private tutoring and sit the exams at authorized centers. Our IGCSE tutors understand the Cambridge mark schemes inside and out and focus on building both subject knowledge and the exam technique needed to achieve the top grades of A* and A, which are increasingly important for competitive placement into A-Level and IB programs. The habits and study skills that students develop during IGCSE preparation carry forward directly into the more demanding A-Level and IB years, making this an investment that pays dividends long after the IGCSE exams are over. Your academic coach helps you select the right combination of IGCSE subjects that aligns with your future A-Level or IB plans and coordinates tutoring across all your subjects to keep progress balanced and on track. Visit our IGCSE programme page to see all 104 subjects we support and discover how our tutors can help you excel.

Indiana, Carmel High School, AP program

Class of 2021

I'm from Indiana and I registered on To Best Universities in 2020. They immediately assigned a coach and an academic coach, who were extremely helpful with any problem I encountered during my interactions with their services. Professor Mike H. helped me with my math classes and I scored 5s both on AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC. I got guidance from Mrs. Janice B. for my college applications. I couldn't have been this successful without everyone's help and support at To Best Universities. In the end, I got accepted into my dream school, Brown University. Thank you so much!
